What the law says

Electricity (Rights of Consumers) Rules, 2020 (amended 2024) set service standards. Disconnection for non-payment needs at least 15 clear days' written notice (Section 56, Electricity Act, 2003), and old arrears generally cannot be recovered after two years unless shown continuously as due. "Theft" assessments under Section 135 are serious — see an advocate.
